Tsuga canadensis 'Greenwood Lake' is a clumpy, upright miniature selection of Canadian hemlock with irregular branching and short, bright-green foliage that is especially attractive on the new growth. Prefers sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. After 10 years of growth a mature specimen will measure 12 inches (30 cm) tall and 2.5 feet (75 cm) wide, an annual growth rate of around 1 inch (2.5 cm).
Origin:
This cultivar was found in the wild in the 1930s, by an unknown collector, near Greenwood Lake, New Jersey. George L. Ehrle of Richfield, New Jersey is credited with introducing it to the nursery trade sometime before 1938.
