Picea abies 'Acro-yellow' / Acro-yellow Norway spruce
Picea abies 'Acro-yellow' is a slow-growing, irregular-upright selection of Norway spruce with foliage that is frosted with butter-yellow, and numerous cherry-red seed cones that grow at the ends of terminal branches. In spring the combination of of yellow and red is very pleasing. After 10 years of growth, a mature specimen will measure (1.5 - 2 m) tall and (1 - 1.3 m) wide, an annual growth rate of 4 to 6 inches (10 - 15 cm).
Origin:
This cultivar originated as a seedling selected in the early 2000s by Greg Williams of Wolcott, Vermont. Buchholz Nursery of Gaston, Oregon is credited with introducing it to the nursery trade.
'Acro-yellow' is one of eight selections made in 2020 for the popular ACS Collectors' Conifer of the Year program.
